The mission of YES Publishing is to support the efforts and preserve the great works of Texas artists, writers, photographers, activists and historians. The first fruit of this task is the publication in Fall, 2019 of the first of two far-ranging, yet intrinsically related books defining Austin culture to be published during the fall and winter seasons, 2019-2020.

This first book, publication date October 15th, describes the life of one of Austin’s musical icons, in his own hilarious words. ‘Life Is A Butt Dial - Tales From A Life Among The Tragically Hip,’ by Cleve Hattersley, is a collection of true stories from a member of the Austin Music Hall Of Fame, who also spent years touring and formulating lunacy with Kinky Friedman. Cleve is a former pot smuggler and ex-convict, who once ran New York’s Lone Star Cafe and Blue Note Jazz Clubs. From partying with the stars to taking on political parties in election campaigns, all stories true, in a book called “too real” by at least one publisher. Cleve’s drawings of some of his subjects and sixteen pages of photographs are included.

The second book, due shortly after the first of the year, is all about Austin's greatest poster artists. ’The Big Book Of Austin Poster Art - Volume One,’ Various Artists, defines the world of poster art and its effects on the subculture and eventually mainstream culture in Austin, from 1965 to 1985. From Jaxon to Juke to Biscuit, twenty artists, each with his/her own chapter, in full brilliant color; a book so big (11.5”x14” - one poster per page) and so daring that Chinese printing presses refused to print it. Included with the book is an amazing DVD by Bob Simmons titled ‘Poster Boys,’ featuring decades of mind-expanding interviews with many of the artists in the book.

Future books from YES Publishing will include Volume Two of the poster books, featuring artists and works from 1985 to the present; a massive study of the life of legendary Chicago Black Panther and organizer of the first Rainbow Coalition, Bobby Lee, who in later life spent decades organizing and helping the citizens in Houston’s Fifth Ward, while creating some of the most important inner city collage art of the last half of the twentieth century; and a giant photo essay by award-winning Austin documentary photographer, Alan Pogue, who has recorded the rise and impact of resistance and community organizing in Austin for over fifty years.

YES Publishing operates as a fundraising arm of Youth Emergency Services, Inc.
dba as The Phogg Phoundation For The Pursuit Of Happiness, a private, non-profit 501c3.

The Phogg Phoundation is dedicated to preserving and utilizing the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights, especially the right to pursue happiness and our right to privacy. The foundation has contributed to organizations that cross issues and geographical boundaries, including such issues as civil/human rights, elder care, youth welfare, environmental protection, the plight of Native Americans, and hurricane relief.
